2006-08: How much should one study?

How much should one study during one’s life? (1)

 Today I’m gonna talk about the studying. I like it but sometimes if there’s are too many things for me to be interested in, I got nervous then become thinking about “Am I right status for now?”. For being a human, what is most important thing? One is for sure that the studying is not the best virtue to pursue during one’s life. There are so many things to value during a lifetime.

New system for my learning

 Two weeks ago, I began to record my activities leveraging my knowledge. It’s so called “Knowledge Index”, which has the initial value of 100 and each meaningful activity increase by one or two points. Also, when beginning a week, there’s 5 points loss to depreciate the current knowledge. On top of that, the recommended list of activities includes one book reading and one writing-down-underlines and two free writing. It sums up to 5 points and I can manage to keep my current level even.

Is that appropriate? On the view of one’s lifetime?

 Now I’m a student who has five courses of major during this semester. To keep up with those classes, I should study at least 10 hours a week to keep up with. Frankly speaking, rather than reading a textbook, I prefer to read a book that I chose by myself. Of course, when I finished reading a book, I would like to write down my underlines to be marked on the book and compose my ideas into the written form.

Free research is enough?

 I don’t insist that I should study in more hours a day. It’s for sure. I just need some guideline about the direction of study, the length of study and the density of study. I wonder if the more is not the better when studying and learning. However I agree that the more we concentrate, the more we can learn.

How much should I study? revised

 We could have a control over the process of learning. The controllable variables are the amount of input knowledge, the variety of knowledge and time-consuming skills. For more stories I would continue on next episode. I cannot but consider my points that I should achieve for my Knowledge Index. J
